I’m a freshman at a Catholic University in San Antonio, Texas, yee-haw y’all.
The first day of school I felt like a five-year old, and I soon realized I was going to be treated like one too. For a couple of weeks before class discussions it was like my professors were stuck on replay.
“This is a safe space.”
Growing up I wasn’t exactly the out going kid who volunteered for everything, but then a miracle happened and I grew a pair and didn’t care about what people thought of me. It’s not a secret people can be cruel especially if you don’t agree with them, but that’s when you have to put your big kid pants on and clap back. Apparently my university didn’t agree and thought we needed to be sheltered and “if you don’t have anything nice to say, then don’t say anything at all” echoed throughout the campus.
I’m sorry but last time I checked, everyone is 17+, probably living by themselves, and there’s a thing called the First Amendment (AKA freedom of speech). The fact that I’m paying over $40,000 a year, yet I can’t say how I feel because it might hurt someones feelings really grinds my gears.
Honestly though, if prof makes me help my peer, yet gets mad because I criticized their paper what is the point? If your paper is shitty we should still applaud you? No, you’re asking me for my point of view and I’m going to help you write a bomb ass paper, but that’s not going to happen if you don’t let me put in my two cents without getting butt-hurt about it.
Not many people my age agree and tell me I’m just a flat-out bitch, nah I just don’t sugar coat to convince others, OK maybe I am a bitch but oh well, it builds character. My advice, stop being a baby, your mom is not here and you need to grow up if my stupid (and hilarious might I add) comments offend you.
